Funding for higher education institutions to host focal points of competence and knowledge on European Union subjects. These centres
- gather experts to develop synergies between European studies’ disciplines and resources
- reach out to students from faculties not normally dealing with European Union issues
- share their knowledge with policy makers, civil society and the general public
- enable experts the chance to create joint transnational ventures
Applicant requirements
The organisation must be a higher education institution established in an Erasmus+ programme country or partner country.
These countries are known as "EU Member States or countries associated to the Programme" and "third countries not associated to the Programme".
Those established in programme countries must hold a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).
Project duration
3 years.
Only one Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence will be supported at the same time in any participating higher education institution.
Budget
Maximum grant: €100,000
What is expected of Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence
Centres should
- organise and coordinate the resources of their institution related to EU studies
- lead research activities on specific EU subjects
- collect, analyse and publish the most relevant results
They may support developing content on EU subjects to update and complement current curricula and keep the debate and the exchange of experiences about the EU alive.
They should become the academic reference for EU subjects and reach out to other levels of education and to the wider public.
This outreach may include
- communication and information events
- lectures, seminars, or workshops with policy makers at local, regional and national level, as well as with civil society
- networking with other organisations and individuals supported by Jean Monnet Actions
- publishing their activities as open education resources
How to apply
Calls for proposals are published on an annual basis.
Interested organisations apply to the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
