Case study
Recognising and incentivising staff mobility
Opis
The Conservatorio di Musica Arrigo Boito (CMAB) considers that participation in international projects is important for professional development and the modernisation of a higher education institution. It takes part in international programmes, mobility consortia and a strategic partnership, offering a joint Master programme. Mobility is an integral part of its academic activity for which it is essential that outgoing staff are effectively supported and assured of full recognition for their teaching and training abroad.
CMAB has developed a transparent, inclusive, and non-discriminatory selection process. Calls for applications are published on the institution’s website, with transparent criteria and selection on merit. The International Relations Office provides administrative and logistical support to selected staff preparing for the mobility. Progress during the mobility is monitored. Upon successful completion of the mobility, staff receive full accreditation for teaching and working hours spent at the host institution and are helped to reintegrate into the academic life.
CMAB’s approach to staff mobility has resulted in high staff motivation, evidenced by the increasing participation.
Through the Erasmus Programme, a profound change of mind set has taken place. Internationalisation is no longer viewed as a supplementary activity but as a structural requirement. The expansion of international contacts has broadened educational opportunities for CMAB and its students.
