Open-access online training for gender equality

Despite legislation and enormous progress in EU Member States over recent decades, disparities in the treatment of men and women, boys and girls still exist in all sectors of society.

The Erasmus+ supported Gender Education project gives those working in NGOs, private-sector companies and other organisations a head start in learning how to challenge gender-based stereotypes, address pay disparities and enable women to gain access to decision-making and leadership roles. With its lasting legacy of online, open-access courses, the project will help forge a more equitable European economy that works for people.

Progressive, blended online courses

Apart from its conferences and two exhibitions, the main tangible result of the project is a series of Blended Learning modules – a mix of online and face-to-face learning – aimed at adults, to raise awareness of gender equality issues and offer training on how to bring about change, notably in the workplace.

Using the popular Moodle e-learning platform, the project has created open-access online courses in four languages (Bulgarian, Czech, English, and Portuguese), guaranteeing its sustainability for years to come, at no additional cost.

These courses are designed to be progressive, with the first (Basic) level suitable for all learners, while the main target group for the level 2 (Advanced) course is human resources (HR) personnel and management. Level 3 (Expert) is aimed at managers and consultants with a particular interest in gender equality.

Those completing the courses receive a recognised certificate.

By spreading gender equality education and offering unlimited access to e-learning, the project can help to change attitudes in society.

Statistics from the project

  • nearly 250 people signed up to the courses during the project
  • the project co-ordinator, HR association KPMS, has a network of over 200 affiliated companies and NGOs
  • partners COOLABORA in Portugal and Tugedar EOOD in Bulgaria also act as effective multipliers for promoting gender equality
