Erasmus+ and the EU's priorities

Erasmus+ projects support many of the EU's ongoing priorities. Read examples below.

Sustainable prosperity and competitiveness

The European Commission aims to safeguard and boost Europe’s competitiveness. Many Erasmus+ projects fund organisations to help their staff and learners gain experience in another country, elevate their entrepreneurial skills, and become more competitive.

Social fairness

Europe’s unique social model is based on creating prosperity while ensuring that no one gets left behind. Erasmus+ supports many social and equality organisations. These train or retrain workers, empower people from rural areas with training and mentoring, and combat social exclusion of children through education.

Quality of life

Objectives include building a resilient agricultural system, safeguarding biodiversity, and adapting and preparing for a changing climate. Erasmus+ projects are wide-ranging in these areas, from helping universities develop sustainability strategies, to teaching young people environmentally-friendly farming, to supporting green energy jobs and training.

Democracy

Europe's future in a fractured world will depend on having a strong democracy and on defending the values that give Europeans the freedoms and rights that they cherish. Promoting media literacy, building partnerships of youth organisations, and teaching about the EU outside Europe are examples of how Erasmus+ projects support this priority.

A global Europe

The Commission is working to increase the EU's influence on the global stage, and promoting peace, partnerships and economic stability. Many Erasmus+ projects support these goals by forging mobility, cooperation and policy dialogue activities with education institutions and other partners across the world.
