New features rolling out across the European Student Card digital platform
The latest update of the ESC-Router is designed to simplify operations, improve usability and strengthen collaboration among institutions and service providers.
Access to services for students
The latest update includes the ESC Service Manager, a new application that higher education institutions and student service providers can use to list the services they make available to ESC cardholders across Europe and gain greater visibility of their offerings.
A public facing service catalogue will soon be available for students to search and discover the services they can access with their European Student Card.
ESC-Router users
In the latest version of the ESC-Router:
- institutions can now track ESC issuance statistics within their organisation
- users can view, and download accepted legal documents directly from the ESC-Router platform
- an updated validation screen with a clearer layout and improved user experience upon scanning the QR code of a European Student Card
There's also a new sandbox environment where institutions can safely conduct test integrations. Available 24 hours after registration, this environment does not use personal data and is reset every six months to maintain compliance and ensure data protection.
The future of the European Student Card
Meanwhile we’re wrapping up the results of an ESC Verifiable Credential pilot. This involved thirteen card issuers from 12 countries who issued European Student Cards as verifiable credentials either through the ESC-Router, or through the card issuers’ own card management system.
Digital ESC as a Verifiable Credential – accessible through mobile devices – has the potential to significantly enhance student mobility by providing:
- a trusted and portable proof of student status
- instant verification across institutions
- privacy and scalability
The results and best practices will be available soon, and will certainly shape the future development of the European Student Card.
