Notice of Personal Protection Data Breach: 23 January 2022

We respect the privacy of Erasmus+ participants’ personal information, which is why we need to advise the general public of an event that resulted in the possible disclosure of personal data.

A laptop keyboard with an opened padlock

On 23 January 2022, a laptop used by an educational expert hired by Nationaal Agentschap Erasmus+ Onderwijs & Training (the Dutch National Agency for Erasmus+) was stolen. Among the data stored on this laptop were names and contact details of Erasmus+ beneficiaries, partners and participants.

We have contacted persons whose email address or postal addresses were on the laptop. The aim of this notification is now to inform all other beneficiaries, partners and participants from the affected Erasmus+ projects.

Affected projects

  • 2018-1-NL01-KA204-038899, beneficiary: Stichting Kenniscentrum Pro Work, Burgh Haamstede, the Netherlands
  • 2018-1-NL01-KA204-038988, beneficiary: HVO Querido, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
  • 2018-1-NL01-KA204-038991, beneficiary: St. Dona Daria, Rotterdam, the Netherlands

There is no evidence, nor any indication, that any data from the laptop was compromised. However, we must inform the persons affected about a possible risk of misuse of the personal data resulting from this event.

The Dutch police are investigating the theft of the laptop. Meanwhile the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission, the Dutch Erasmus+ National Agency and other Erasmus+ National Agencies are working together to review rules for using personal data in the programme.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and concern this situation might have caused.
