European Commission and European Olympic Committees sign a new Arrangement for Cooperation
European Commission Vice President Schinas and European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos signed a new Arrangement for Cooperation on 26 July 2024.
New arrangement promotes European and Olympic values
Signed on the opening day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this agreement marks the continuous good cooperation between the European Commission and the EOC. It shows their commitment to promoting shared European and Olympic values and the societal role of sport.
This Arrangement for Cooperation aims to promote youth and cultural exchanges among EU citizens, including initiatives during the next European Youth Olympic Festivals in 2025.
Strengthening cooperation for a stronger European identity
The agreement will also reinforce cooperation between the two entities in key areas that strengthen European identity, such as
- sustainability
- inclusiveness
- gender equality
- safeguarding
- tolerance
It focuses on combating harassment and discrimination, promoting good governance, ensuring athlete participation and integrity, and upholding the core values of the European Sport Model.
This cooperation will be established through meetings between the European Commission and the EOC. The EOC EU office in Brussels maintains regular contact. These meetings will help to identify potential joint events and projects, as well as visibility, communications and other joint initiatives.
