This year, the Erasmus+ call for proposals selected 34 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) and 50 Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM).

Calls for funding are open to organisations and institutions every year.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

Selected consortia are made up of organisations from 38 different countries, while other 40 additional countries are represented with associated partners.

Consortia involve on average 24 participating organisations (including associated partners) per proposal.

Once open, these programmes will be available to students from across the world, with EU full scholarships also available.

Erasmus Mundus aims to promote excellence and global reach in higher education through Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programmes.

Examples of new masters include

  • automotive computing for mobility innovation
  • smart city management, governance, innovation and sustainability
  • digital innovation in health
  • human sexology
  • gender and security
  • democratic governance and international security
  • heritage – multidisciplinary approach for better preservation
  • cross-border criminology
  • bioenergy systems
  • AI technologies for sustainable public service co-creation
  • linguistic, literary and cultural discourses in English

Erasmus Mundus Design Measures

The Erasmus Mundus Design Measures support the future creation of high-level, integrated master’s programmes. 5 of the EMJM selected this year had its origin in EMDM grants from previous calls.

The 50 EMDMs selected in the call 2024 have coordinators from 20 different countries.

Celebrating 20 years

Almost 50,000 students have participated in Erasmus Mundus since 2004. The 20 years were celebrated at a May 2024 conference, “Beyond Borders and Boundaries”, in Brussels.

Total budget

Over the 2021-27 period, roughly €1 billion is budgeted under Erasmus+ to support annual calls for the Erasmus Mundus action in its two lots: EMJM and EMDM.
